Programs

Since its founding, OEDDO has quickly expanded beyond its original goal of providing a home for orphaned children and now provides a wide variety of programs and services to both residents of the Center and local individuals and families in need.  OEDDO tries to add as many new programs as possible as needs arise within the community.

The Center

The OEDDO Center was first opened in 2003 with the goal of providing a loving home for local children living on their own. There are 40 children currently living at the Center who are raised as a family led by "Mom" Vanna San. Education is a primary goal of OEDDO, so all children are given the opportunity to attend university or trade school after graduating from high school. Many of our young people return to the village after graduation to give back and work in the community.  Sponsorships cover the daily needs and care of the residents.

Hospital

OEDDO is currently constructing a hospital to serve approximately 15,000 people in the immediate area, as well as several other communities of similar size in the surrounding area. The closest hospital is currently one hour away if you have access to a car, which most do not.

Construction began in October 2019. When finished, the hospital will have 24 patient beds, exam rooms, lab and x-ray services, and will be able to provide outpatient and emergency services on a sliding pay scale. The hospital dedication is expected to happen in September 2023. Several of our young people who have completed university in medical fields have expressed a desire to come back and work in the community when the hospital is complete.

The hospital will be the first hospital in the country to include a kitchen.  Meals will be prepared and served to the patients.  Traditionally, the families have provided the meals.

Elder Home

In 2014, OEDDO converted the original building at the Center into a home and meeting space for homeless, elderly, and disabled adults. The addition of the Elder Home to the Center has allowed families to stay together, as many of the individuals in the program are grandparents of children also living in the Center and may be their only living relative. Sponsorships cover the daily needs and care of the residents. A new building for the elders is currently being built and will provide a gathering space, as well as a place to teach the children traditional crafts. The upper floor will provide living space for hospital volunteers.

Farming

OEDDO has two farms that allow it to grow rice, fruit, and livestock like fish, chickens, and cattle to feed those living at the Center. The farms produce enough food to also help feed local individuals in need and offer an opportunity for locals to earn some income by working during the harvest.

Community Programs

OEDDO also provides services for community members including sponsorships for living expenses; English, computer, woodworking and tailoring classes; medical transport for HIV+ individuals; and providing bicycles to be used for transportation. OEDDO owns the only tractors in the area, so they also help local farmers with planting and harvesting, assisting around 900 small farms per year.
